To Tithe or Not to Tithe

By Jeff Mikels :: Jeff Mikels' Blog - Wed, 05/22/2013 - 17:39

In a recent conversation I had with a church planting friend of mine, the topic of the tithe came up, and I thought it might be interesting for me to put down in this forum what I am teaching my church regarding giving.

Having been heavily influenced by the likes of Andy Stanley, Randy Alcorn, and my own Dad, I have become convinced that teaching percentage-based giving is not only the number one . . .

Colossians: A Public Spectacle

8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.

By Steve Viars :: Faith Church Blogs - Thu, 05/16/2013 - 09:00

Last Saturday my wife Kris and I had the privilege of watching our daughter Karis graduate from Purdue with a Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.  Flanked on one hand by Karis’ husband Austin and the other by my mother, our little tribe rejoiced at this tremendous accomplishment.  There were hundreds of thoughts swirling through our minds as we watched academic proof unfold that our littl . . .

Groom Your Dog to Help Carol Cobbs!

By Pastor Jeff :: Lafayette Community Church - Tue, 05/14/2013 - 12:14

I have a great opportunity for us to be Good Neighbors and to bless someone!

Today, I got a phone call from Carol Cobbs who is days away from being evicted. She has come upon some hard times in the last few years. Her long-time boyfriend was hit by a drunk driver and now faces brain damage, seizures, and short-term memory loss, and this past week, she was robbed at gunpoint.

We can bless her.

Like a Good Neighbor

By Pastor Jeff :: Lafayette Community Church - Sat, 05/11/2013 - 20:56

According to Jesus, the entire Bible can be summed up in just a few words:

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” — Matthew 22:37-40

Helping the Ortiz Family

By Pastor Jeff :: Lafayette Community Church - Thu, 05/09/2013 - 12:20

Last night, Carlos Ortiz and his family lost their home to a huge fire. Since it was clearly a house fire and on the southside of town, I rushed over there as soon as I saw the black smoke to see if there was anything we could do as a church to help.

It so happens that I know their next door neighbor and he introduced me to the Ortiz family. They were so broken up by the loss that they could hard . . .

Worship Fail

Have you ever been sitting in a worship service and thought back to your previous week?  Suddenly your heart sinks because the words that are coming out of your mouth do not line up with your actions or attitudes.  Instead of singing “I Surrender ALL” you feel like you should be singing, “I Surrender SOME” or maybe some of the other worship songs in the above video.

Where is the truth i . . .
